Installation procedure

Info

Installation must only be carried out by a trained and qualified electrician!

Please observe the safety instructions in the operating instructions for the inverter, battery and energy meter.

Some inverter settings require a service password, which you can obtain by registering as an installer in the KOSTAL Terminal.

Before carrying out any work on the devices or on the supply cables, the mains supply to the property, the inverter and the battery must be completely disconnected from the mains. Please refer to the relevant operating instructions for the respective devices.

The following steps are required to connect multiple KOSTAL inverters:

  1. Install all KOSTAL inverters in the domestic grid (see installation overview).
  2. Install the energy meter at the grid connection point (see installation overview).
  3. Connect the MDC host inverter to the energy meter (KEM or KSEM) via the RS485 interface.
  4. Configure a PLENTICORE G3 inverter as an MDC host.
  5. Configure all other inverters as MDC client inverters
  6. Connect all devices to the internet via LAN.
The communication link between the MDC host and the MDC clients must be established via LAN. A Wi-Fi connection from the MDC clients to the MDC host is not permitted. It is best to use the bridge function in the MDC host inverter for this purpose. The MDC host then establishes the connection to the internet via the router.
  7. Optional: On the inverters to which a battery is connected, configure the battery settings (e.g. the minimum state of charge (SoC)).
  8. Optional: Set the feed-in limitation/power limit for the grid connection point in the MDC host inverter.
  9. Optional: Activate the Modbus protocol in the MDC host inverter for external queries. External control via Modbus is not possible.
  10. Optional: Activate digital inputs (e.g. for remote control receivers (RSE), control box (FNN)) in the MDC host to utilise the output reduction in accordance with Section 14a and EE Section 9. The host distributes the received signals to the MDC client inverters and ensures the correct output reduction.
  11. Enable data transmission to the KOSTAL Solar Portal in all KOSTAL inverters.
  12. Assign all KOSTAL inverters in the KOSTAL Solar Portal to the same PV system.
